The Art of the Movie Character

I created a couple of paintings for “The Art of the Movie Character” show at Spin in Toronto this week.
The show will be hung until mid May, so pop by if you’re in the area and play some ping-pong :)

I was recently asked by Arts & Crafts Records to create album artwork for the upcoming collaborative album by Gord Downie and The Sadies.

The artwork was also used in the video shoot for the first single, “Crater”, directed by Norman Wong.

Here is some sample footage that will be in the video, which was actually used as the opening song to Hockey Night in Canada last week:

The album will be released April 15th, but is available for pre-order through the band’s website.

Hope you enjoyed the incredible amount of hometown Canadian content in this post!
Thanks, as always, to Arts & Crafts, and ADs Jonathan Shedletzky and Jenn Kitagawa :)

Hot Docs 2014 Poster

I met with the wonderful people at Hot Docs last October to discuss creating the poster art for their 2014 program. We played around with a few directions, but agreed that portraits based on the Hot Docs logo created the strongest narrative.

I wish to extend my fondest thank you to ADs Jonathan Da Silva and Jane Chisholm for their incredible focus and hard work.

Most importantly, go check out the festival if you’re in Toronto April 24th – May 4th!

Below are samples of working tiles that, while we loved them, didn’t quite make the final cut :)

365 Days of Type

My friend Sabrina Smelko created the 365 Days of Type project last year, singlehandedly tackling each daily creation.
For 2014, Sabrina and her partner in crime Shawn Lovering, are showcasing contributions from other designers and illustrators.

Only 39 days in, there is some really great stuff in their gallery. Check out the website here –, and follow all of the updates on their twitter –

Here’s my contribution, #39 :)

Explosions In The Sky

Explosions In The Sky will be in Korea this May, and I was asked to create a poster for the tour.
If you haven’t had a chance to listen to them, check out their website here.

They’ll be at the Uniqlo Ax Hall on May 10th

Interview with Frank151

I was recently interviewed by Marisa Aveling from Frank151 about my current show in Los Angeles, at the Scion AV Installation space.
I’ll be posting an update this week that is dedicated to the work that was created for (and with) the Scion team.
In the meantime, you can read my interview with Frank151 here :)
